Daring Greatly, a name that echoes far beyond the identities of its members, stands as a powerful testament to living boldly and embracing vulnerability. This mantra, derived from a stirring excerpt of Theodore Roosevelt's 1910 "Citizen's In A Republic" speech, famously known as "The Man in the Arena," sparked the imagination of a group of multi-generational visionaries from the sunny eastern foothills of Canada's Rocky Mountains—in a city known as Calgary.

In 2014, this collective of creative spirits founded an independent rock group in Calgary, Alberta, featuring the unique blend of three distinguished lead vocalists: Dail Croome alongside his sons, Patrick and Liam, and their lifelong friend, Brayden Tario. Together, they crafted a sound that melds harmony-rich rock 'n' roll with the U.S Folk and Americana traditions of the '60s and '70s, infused with lyrics that speak to love, courage, vulnerability, and the pursuit of a purposeful life.

Guided by the compelling influence of their father, Dail, the band embarked on a journey that transcended the Canadian borders, leading them to the vibrant musical landscape of San Diego. Over ten (10) transformative years, Daring Greatly has not only woven their Canadian heritage into their music but also embraced the diverse influences of American rock and country, creating a soundscape that resonates with listeners on a deeply personal level.

This potent blend of genres creates an auditory journey that feels both familiar and invigorating—a sonic testament that resonates deeply with all who encounter it. Their remarkable achievement of securing the 2023 San Diego Music Awards' "Song of the Year" distinction for their evocative track "Never A Goodbye" speaks volumes about their soul-stirring compositions and potent lyrical narratives. Furthermore, their nominations for "Best Rock Artist" and "Best Rock Album" underscore their ability to craft music that resonates on a profound level.

Central to the band's dynamic is the profound fraternal bond between the Croome brothers, whose on-stage chemistry is an enchanting sight to behold. Interchanging as lead vocalists, their voices intertwine flawlessly, bestowing audiences with a captivating and ever-evolving auditory journey. Drummer Brayden Tario, a lifelong confidant of the Croome brothers since their high school days, seamlessly complements their synergy with his rhythmic finesse. His percussive mastery not only anchors the band's rhythm but his harmonious vocals provide an ethereal counterpoint to the brothers' melodies—an extraordinary talent that is a rarity to find.

The evolution of Daring Greatly has been a journey marked by significant changes in its lineup, each shift bringing a new dimension to the band's identity. In 2019, the arrival of electric guitarist David Mills introduced a vibrant Southern California vibe to our music, with his dynamic solos and creative riffs. David officially joined the band in 2020, filling the void left by Brandon Haddow, who had contributed his lead guitar skills to albums like 'Cornerstones' (2016), 'Works of Art' (2017), and 'Give Myself to the World' (2021) before departing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

David's impact extended beyond the stage, notably as the mixing engineer for our "Gird Valley" album, with "Never a Goodbye" winning Song of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards and his influence evident in the 2023 hit "Easy on the Eyes."

In 2021, we faced another departure as Dail Croome, a foundational member and father figure within the band, left. That same year, we welcomed Matt Spatol, a talented bassist and music producer from Milwaukee, whose Midwestern rock touch added a fresh layer to our sound, as seen in tracks like "Blame it on the Whiskey," a 2024 Song of the Year nominee, and "BAD LOVE."

The year 2024 marked a period of transition with the departures of David and Matt, who had been instrumental in our growth. This time also introduced us to Brendan Cutrer from Virginia, a versatile musician capable of playing both bass and electric guitar. Brendan's entry signals a new chapter of creativity and exploration for Daring Greatly, promising to infuse the band with fresh energy and perspectives as we continue our musical journey.

Venturing across stages far and wide, Daring Greatly's relentless dedication has seen them grace over 1,000 performances across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They've shared the spotlight with icons such as Zac Brown Band, Bon Jovi, and Young the Giant, leaving an indelible imprint on audiences. Even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band's resolve remained unshaken, as they streamed over 40 virtual concerts, amassing nearly 1 million views across various platforms.

Beyond the stage, Daring Greatly finds their communal abode in the vibrant heart of San Diego, California. Their resonant melodies have woven an ever-growing tapestry of followers, extending from the Northern County beach towns down to Orange County and beyond.

Presently, the band offers an array of musical arrangements, ranging from intimate coffee-shop acoustic sets resonating with Folk/Americana influences to the grandeur of a 5-piece Jam/Rock ensemble that electrifies concert halls and theaters alike.

The moniker "Daring Greatly" resonates as more than just a band name; it's a guiding philosophy derived from Theodore Roosevelt's timeless words—"The Man in the Arena." As they continue to dare greatly, their music remains an embodiment of courage, innovation, and the pursuit of sonic excellence.

comparisons/inspirations

Liam Croome—at 26—boasts a mean B3 Organ sound, and he can skilfully scale the Piano and Wurly, unleashing explosive solos and psychedelic textures while possessing a deep an illustrious voice of his own, calling to mind a young Burton Cummings of Canada’s The Guess Who. Patrick Croome, 29, writes and strums his heart out on the acoustic guitar while providing a smooth and soul-filled vocal tone that resembles the likes of Eddie Vedder or John Mayer. The family blood harmonies; each with their own unique tone and defined vocal qualities, creates a magical vocal tapestry, like no other. Long-time family friend, Brayden Tario or “Terr"—also 29 is the drummer and backing vocalist for the band. Brayden is a left-handed player that wisely feels the dynamic structure within a song and enhances the music with a tight, rhythmic pocket with precisely timed drum fills and swells. Brayden’s style and approach for his drums parts give subtle nods to the attributes of Dave Grohl or Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters.
